Ardekan rugs originate from Ardakan, in the northwest corner of Yazd Province, known for its fabulous Persian carpets, is also historically a center of camel raising. Although it is located between Yazd and Nain, its influence comes primarily from Kashan. Throughout this area of Iran other small towns including Boroujerd, Josheghan, Khomaine, Najafabad, Taleghan, and Veramin, still weave Persian carpets with influences carried forward from the 16th century. Weavers from Ardekan use a Persian asymmetrical knot. Ardekan rugs woven in the larger cities are of the highest standards. Even though Ardekan rugs produced in villages tend to be of lesser quality than those produced in the larger cities, they are considered to be among the best in the world. It may take years for a dedicated artisan to produce a single rug.

Hamadan was once the capital of Persia during the periods of the Seljuks and today is the catchment area for rugs from numerous towns and villages, many of which have been weaving rugs for centuries. Because Hamadan rugs are drawn from such a wide area, they can be extremely varied in design. They are hard wearing and generally of good quality.
Fairly recently rugs have been made in the city of Hamadan itself. Such rugs are made with thick high quality wool. Carpets manufactured from the city of Hamadan itself were called Shahr Baff meaning City Knott and are usually of a higher quality than rugs produced by its neighbours.
The Hamadan group includes Lilihan rugs, Mazlaghan rugs and Mushkabad rugs. Apart from the village rugs, Hamadan rugs also encompasses some nomad work that is brought into the city of Hamadan for sale.
Whist the patterns of the Hamadan rugs are highly varying, the colours are dominated by different shades of indigo blue and madder red.
In short, Hamadan carpets are beautiful and durable. The patterns are mostly geometric, but floral motifs occur. They are highly collectable and much loved.

Kaomeyn is a city in Markazi province. It used to be called Lilihan (still is called Lilihan rug in US and Europ).Lilihan carpets are similar to Sarouk rug in style , colour and thickness.The Lilihan rugs are using single -wefted weave, typically this means that they have one heavy cotton weft and are made with thick , first quality wool. The Lilihan rugs are the only fabrics in the Sultanabad region to be single-wefted. Lilihan carpets are coarsely, but tightly flat woven, making them extremely durable.

Arak rugs are hand-woven Persian pieces made in Arak (formerly known as Sultanabad), the capital city of the province of Markaz, which sits on the high plateau of central Northwestern Iran. These carpets are beautiful and unique pieces that will enhance any room by means of lively colors and warm motifs in their patterns. The history of this town is very dated and its commercialized rug weaving industry dates back to the 17th century. Today Arak continues to produce semi-tribal or “village” rugs similar to those made in this part of Iran over two thousand years ago, although a lot of changes have been made to the designs. Therefore, most of the elements in the pattern of the rugs have a history and has been woven in carpets for thousands of years.They are very durable and are capable of lasting an incredibly long period of time.

Kashmar rugs originate from Kashmar, small city located in the Province of Khorassan, just southwest of Mashad. It is reputed to produce some of the highest quality area rugs in eastern Iran in addition to being a collection point for Baluch tribal area rugs. The weaving of Kashmar rugs can be traced back to the 1500s. They are quite rare and historically very important. Much the same as books, Kashmar rugs tell the stories of the rich cultural life and history in the region. Kashmar is the home to many master weavers who use Persian knots to create their fine works of art.
