This is a central medallion Qum silk carpet. Whilst being very involved and energetic in composition it is very relaxing to behold. The medallion is clearly mostly of floral motifs, and despite that, its overall shape suggests a star or perhaps even the sun. The medallion is framed delightfully by 6 Boteh motifs (4 large, 2 smaller) which may be representative of a flame or the universe.

This is a central medallion Qum silk carpet.The medallion is clearly mostly of floral motifs, and despite that, its overall shape suggests a star or perhaps even the sun. The medallion is framed delightfully by 6 Boteh motifs (4 large, 2 smaller) which may be representative of a flame or the universe.

Qom rugs (or Qum, Ghom, Ghum) are made in the Qom Province of Iran, around 100 km south of Tehran. Although rug weaving in Qom was not a major industry until the past 100 years, the luxurious silk and wool rugs of Qom are known for their high quality and are  regarded among the most expensive in the world.
