This is a beautiful central medallion carpet made of silk from the city of Qum. It has a central motif that sits in the middle, and appears to be almost adjusting the rectangular shape holding it by pushing out the two length way sides. This creates a sense of expansion that is then advanced by satellites in the main guard border that continues with this theme of an outburst. The colours and style of the rug are of great charm and value.

Qom rugs (or Qum, Ghom, Ghum) are made in the Qom Province of Iran, around 100 km south of Tehran. Although rug weaving in Qom was not a major industry until the past 100 years, the luxurious silk and wool rugs of Qom are known for their high quality and are  regarded among the most expensive in the world.
