This carpet has a strong presence with the clear shape of the cross in focus. At the heart of the cross is a rosette pattern that expands outwards along the roads of the cross. The colours are glorious and the beauty of the carpet is spellbinding. It is made from silk and comes from the city of Qum.
Qom rugs (or Qum, Ghom, Ghum) are made in the Qom Province of Iran, around 100 km south of Tehran. Although rug weaving in Qom was not a major industry until the past 100 years, the luxurious silk and wool rugs of Qom are known for their high quality and are regarded among the most expensive in the world.
The rugs from Qum ‘walk on the shoulders of giants’. Because they are relatively new arrivals to the art of carpet design and weaving, they have drawn inspiration from the best carpet weavers, and often have produced rugs superior to those from which they have drawn inspiration.
These carpets are regarded as being among the most beautiful and the most exclusive Persian carpets available. They are often knotted entirely in silk, resulting in a carpet with great lustre. The fine silk thread used makes it possible to produce incredibly detailed patterns.
