This carpet is the work of a genius. There is balance and structure in the format of the patterns which are largely floral and reminds us of the abundance of spring. The gentle base field colour looks marvellous and contrasts ideally with the flowers that appear on it. The carpet is made from silk and comes form the city of Qum.

Qom rugs (or Qum, Ghom, Ghum) are made in the Qom Province of Iran, around 100 km south of Tehran. Although rug weaving in Qom was not a major industry until the past 100 years, the luxurious silk and wool rugs of Qom are known for their high quality and are  regarded among the most expensive in the world.
The rugs from Qum ‘walk on the shoulders of giants’. Because they are relatively new arrivals to the art of carpet design and weaving, they have drawn inspiration from the best carpet weavers, and often have produced rugs superior to those from which they have drawn inspiration.
These carpets are regarded as being among the most beautiful and the most exclusive Persian carpets available. They are often knotted entirely in silk, resulting in a carpet with great lustre. The fine silk thread used makes it possible to produce incredibly detailed patterns.
